Jeroloman's Three-Run HR Leads Fisher Cats to 4-3 Win Over Reading

June 24, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1) - New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Reading, PA- Brian Jeroloman belted a three-run home run, Celson Polanco pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn his first career Double-A victory and Adrian Martin closed it out for his first save since April 9th as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats made it two straight wins over the Reading Phillies with a 4-3 victory on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Reading (39-31) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against Marty McLeary when Ozzie Chavez (1-for-3, 2 BB, 2 R, SB) singled, stole second base and scored on Brian Stavisky's double off the left field wall.

New Hampshire (32-40) retaliated and went ahead to stay in the top of the fourth against losing pitcher Tyson Brummett. Adam Calderone (0-for-3, BB, R) and Brad Emaus (1-for-2, 2 BB, 2 R) drew back-to-back walks, and Jeroloman (1-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, BB) followed with a three-run home run, his fourth, over the center field wall for a 3-1 lead.

The Phillies trimmed the Fisher Cats' lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth on Kevin Mahar's seventh home run, a solo blast. McLeary was removed after walking the bases loaded, but Polanco fanned Michael Taylor (3-for-5) on a 3-2 pitch to preserve the one-run lead.

The Fisher Cats would chase Brummett (3-7) in the top of the sixth when Emaus and Jeroloman walked, and Darin Mastroianni (1-for-4, RBI) stroked his first career Double-A hit, an RBI single that plated Emaus for a 4-2 lead.

Reading scored a run against Danny Farquhar in the bottom of the seventh inning on a run-scoring fielder's choice ground out by Neil Sellers, scoring Chavez (walk) and cutting New Hampshire's lead to 4-3.

Adrian Martin pitched a scoreless ninth, inducing a game-ending double-play grounder from Stavisky (1-for-5, 2B, RBI) to notch his second save, giving the Fisher Cats their first back-to-back victories since May 31st and June 1 and ensuring their first series victory since taking two out of three from the Binghamton Mets May 11-13.

Polanco (1-1) matched a season high with four strikeouts in registering the win.

Brummett surrendered four runs on eights hits and four walks in five-plus innings, as the Phillies dropped their third straight game.

New Hampshire and Reading meet for the final time this season on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium when Fisher Cats right-hander Brandon Magee (4-4, 4.93) duels against R-Phils righty Kyle Drabek (3-0, 2.08) in a 7:05pm game that will have the Fisher Cats seeking their first sweep of the 2009 season. Coverage begins with the BayRing Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.

The Fisher Cats open a four-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, with a 7:05pm game on Friday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
