JUPITER, FL- Congratulations to OF Jeremias Pineda of the Jupiter Hammerheads and LHP Dillon Peters of the Jacksonville Suns on being named Miami Marlins Minor League Player & Pitcher of the Month for August 2016.

In August, Pineda batted .358 (39x109) over 28 games with four doubles, two triples, and 11 stolen bases. He posted a .421 on base percentage and .431 slugging percentage. Pineda, signed as minor league free agent on March 20th, 2016, ranked 1st in batting average, 1st in stolen bases, and 3rd in on base percentage in the Florida State League for the month.

Peters went 4-0 with a 1.99 ERA in 5 games started in August. Over 28 2/3 innings pitched, he held opponents to a .194 batting average while striking out 20 and walking only six. Peters, the Marlins' 10th round selection in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Texas, was also named to the Florida State League Postseason All-Star Team.

Pineda delivered in 65 games played with your Hammerheads, hitting at .300, knocking in 32 RBI's and leading the team in stolen bases with 21. The speedster from Hormigo, Dominican Republic began within the Minnesota Twins organization and was signed by the Marlins on March 26, 2016. During his time with the Hammerheads he tallied an on-base percentage of .381 and an OPS of .721, slugging at a .340 clip.

Pineda top performances in the Month of August

The switch hitting leadoff man recorded a single game season high of five hits on the 24th against Bradenton, with one triple, a run scored and three RBI's. On the 26th, Pineda, finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one triple. Against Fort Myers on the 19th he went 3-for-5. Stole three bases in one game against Palm Beach on the 7th. Recorded a seven game hit streak from the 1st through the 10th, had 12 multi-hit outings during the month.

Pineda set the table for the Hammerheads offense that helped finish 2.5 games back of first place in the Southern Division second half standings. Jupiter had their eyes on the postseason through most of the second half of the year and went into the final four games with a playoff possibility still in-tact.
