Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves snapped a four-game losing streak as they used a spectacular outing from Myles Jaye to take down the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 4-2 on Saturday night.
The SeaWolves struck first in the opening frame against Squirrels starter Tyler Beede. Jeff McVaney singled with one out and moved to third on a JaCoby Jones base hit. On the Jones hit, a throwing error by the third baseman Christian Arroyo allowed McVaney to score for a 1-0 lead.
The Wolves added onto their lead in the fourth. Connor Harrell and Casey Frawley each singled to start the inning. Kody Eaves singled home Harrell for a 2-0 lead. With two outs and Eaves on third, Harold Castro doubled home the run for a 3-0 lead.
SeaWolves starter Myles Jaye was fantastic on Saturday night. He started the game with five perfect innings before Jeff Arnold led off the sixth with a hit.
Richmond got on the board in the eighth against Jaye. Arnold walked with one out. With two outs, Arnold moved to second on a passed ball with Ali Castillo batting. Castillo singled home Arnold, trimming Erie's lead to 3-1.
The SeaWolves answered the run in the bottom of the eighth. Dean Green led off and crushed a solo home run to straight away center making it 4-1. The home run for Green was his 10thand it drove in his league-leading 47th run. It was his first home run since May 13 vs. Bowie.
The Flying Squirrels attempted to rally in the ninth against reliever Ruben Alaniz. With one out, Austin Slater and Ricky Oropesa drew back-to-back walks putting the tying run at the plate. A pair of wild pitches pushed the runners into scoring position and scored Slater making it 4-2. Alaniz then struck out Hunter Cole and induced a fly out to right off the bat of Myles Schroder, ending the game.
Jaye (2-4) earned his second straight win. He allowed an unearned run on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts in a season-high eight innings.
Alaniz earned his second save of the season allowing a run on no hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Beede (2-3) took the loss, giving up three runs on 10 hits with two walks and six strikeouts in seven innings.
