Jaye Fires Gem as 'Wolves Down Cats

The SeaWolves avoided a series sweep as they took down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Wednesday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park, 2-1.
The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning against Fisher Cats starter Shane Dawson. With two outs, Connor Harrell singled up the middle and Jason Krizan walked putting a pair on for Dominic Ficociello. Ficociello singled to left, plating Harrell for a 1-0 lead.
SeaWolves starter Myles Jaye was fantastic, starting the game with six shutout frames. The Fisher Cats got on the board in the top of the seventh when Dwight Smith, Jr. connected on a solo home run to right, tying the game 1-1.
Jaye would finish the day going seven innings, allowing a run on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts in seven innings of work. It was his fourth straight quality start.
The SeaWolves regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Murphy Smith. With one out, Harrell blasted a solo home run off the scoreboard in right center, giving the SeaWolves a 2-1 advantage. The home run for Harrell was his seventh and it equaled his total home run count from last season.
The SeaWolves turned to Joe Jimenez in the top of the ninth inning. Jimerez induced three pop outs, preserving the Erie win, earning his fourth save. Jimerez. Between Lakeland and Erie, Jimenez has tossed 26 consecutive scoreless appearances.
Paul Voelker (3-2) earned the win tossing a scoreless eighth.
The SeaWolves are off on both Thursday and Friday and will resume play on Saturday in doubleheader action against the Harford Yard Goats at 4:05 p.m. The series with Hartford will be played in Norwich, Connecticut.
