 Mississippi Braves

Jaxx Take Game Two

August 29, 2008 - Southern League (SL1)
Mississippi Braves News Release

The M-Braves and D-Jaxx faced off again Friday night in game two of the final five-game series of the season. Neither team could get much going through the first six innings, but the Diamond Jaxx broke through in the seventh. The Braves got a great outing from Jeff Lyman who was making his first AA start, but it wasn't enough as the offense couldn't get anything going.

West Tenn finally broke the scoreless tie in the seventh. Two walks and a single loaded the bases for the D-Jaxx and Matt Mangini's base-clearing double gave West Tenn a 3-0 lead. Mangini was thrown out attempting to stretch his double into a triple, but the damage had been done.

The Diamond Jaxx added an unearned run in the ninth to make the final, 4-0.

Jeff Lyman made his AA debut Friday night as was nothing short of spectacular. Lyman gave up only two hits over five scoreless innings and left the game with the score tied at zero. Bryan Dumesnil gave up three runs on two hits in 2.1 innings and fell to 2-1 on the year. Sung Ki Jung gave up an unearned run in 1.2 relief innings.

Tracy Thorpe threw 5.1 scoreless innings, but did not factor into the decision. Jason Kirshner came on and threw 1.2 scoreless innings to earn his third win of the year. Doug Fister threw one scoreless inning and Shawn Kelly earned his 10th save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Mississippi and West Tenn will play game three of this five-game set Saturday night. The Braves will send righty Todd Redmond to the hill against West Tenn's Gaby Hernandez.

On Saturday, August 30th, the M-Braves will celebrate the second consecutive Fan Appreciation Night with thousands of dollars worth of prizes. The Mayberry Deputy will be in attendance to entertain fans between innings.
