Springfield Falcons News Release

Manchester, N.H. - Jonathan Audy-Marchessault registered the first hat trick by a Springfield Falcons skater since Feb. 19, 2011 on Tuesday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena as part of a wild 7-5 victory over the Manchester Monarchs.

Audy-Marchessault's third goal of the contest in the final period broke a 5-5 tie and proved to be the game winner, as the Falcons (21-9-3-3) beat the Monarchs (17-17-2-2) to extend their Northeast Division lead to eight points over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

The Monarchs collected the game's first goal 6:21 into the opening period. Robbie Czarnik received a pass from Stefan Legein in the left circle and chipped the puck off of Falcons goaltender Allen York and into the net, as Manchester secured a 1-0 lead.

Manchester's advantage was short lived, as Audy-Marchessault took a pass from Nick Drazneovic, backhanded a puck off of Monarchs netminder Peter Mannino, and pushed in the rebound at 7:17, tying the game, 1-1.

After Ryan Craig's shot from the left side was blocked, Michael Chaput picked up the rebound in the slot, skated around traffic to the bottom of the right circle, and fired the puck past Mannino at 11:00, as Springfield grabbed a 2-1 edge.

The Monarchs evened the score at 2-2 later in the initial stanza. Marc-Andre Cliche took a tip pass from Andy Andreoff on the end boards, moved to the inner-edge of the right circle, and drove a puck through York at 16:58 for the equalizer.

With Springfield on its first power play of the contest, Audy-Marchessault provided the Falcons with a 3-2 cushion through 20 minutes. Audy-Marchessault corralled the puck on the left-wing boards, twirled to the left circle, and wristed a puck over Mannino's stick at 18:49 for his second goal of the period. Mannino was replaced by Jean-Francois Berube at the start of the second.

Wade MacLeod notched his first AHL goal of 2012-2013 in style early in the second period. The second-year pro snatched a long feed from Cody Goloubef, cut around a Monarch from the right circle to the slot, and snapped the puck by Berube at 1:55 as the Falcons' opened their advantage to 4-2.

The Monarchs commenced their comeback moments after their second power play of the game ended, as Nick Deslauriers captured a cross-ice setup from Brandon Kozun and shot a puck from the right circle off of a Falcons defenseman and in at 7:09, making it 4-3.

With the Monarchs back on the man advantage, Tanner Pearson followed up a rebound off his own shot and slid the puck by York at 16:32, as the teams entered the second intermission all square, 4-4.

Tomas Kubalik broke through with the go-ahead tally in the premiere stages of the third, beating Berube with a wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle at 43 seconds, putting Springfield back in front, 5-4.

Andy Andreoff's individual effort paid off for the Monarchs near the halfway point of the third. Andreoff pried the puck free at center ice, sped into Springfield's end, and clanked a snap shot off the crossbar and in from the right circle at 9:28 for the 5-5 tie.

The Falcons embarked on their second and final power play of the game moments after Andreoff's goal and made the most of their opportunity. Nick Holden fed Audy-Marchessault in the left circle with the Falcons looking for the tiebreaking marker. Audy-Marchessault wound up and rocketed the puck over Berube at 11:26, as the Falcons' garnered their final lead of the game, 6-5. He became the first Falcons player to notch a hat trick in 136 games, dating back to when Kyle Wilson scored three goals in a 3-2 overtime victory over Worcester.

Chaput banked a shot off of Berube and over the goal line from the right circle at 15:48 for insurance, 7-5.

York (3-3-0) allowed five goals on 27 shots. Berube (0-1-0) suffered the loss in relief, making 13 saves on 17 shots. Mannino set aside eight of Springfield's 11 attempts but did not factor in the decision.

Springfield exited its road season series with Manchester with a 3-0-0-0 record at the Verizon Wireless Arena after earning victories in just eight of its first 47 games in the building entering 2012-2013.
