Jam Falls To Flash In Home Opener

December 4, 2009 - NBA G League (G League)
Bakersfield Jam News Release

(Bakersfield, Calif. - December 3, 2009) - In the first game played at the new Jam Events Center, Bakersfield was unable to fight back from an early deficit and dropped to 0-3 on the young season with a 112-92 loss to the Utah Flash.

The Flash jumped to a 24-4 lead before the Jam were able to counter, thanks to an impressively well-balanced scoring attack captained by athletic guard Dontell Jefferson and suffocating defense that would force the Jam into 20 turnovers in the game. Impressive shooting by reserve guard Anthony Goods - who scored ten points in the quarter - brought Bakersfield within single digits to close the period at 29-20.

The Jam appeared poised to strike back in the second quarter as they closed the gap to six points on several occasions led by a backcourt tandem of Goods and Lance Hurdle, who finished with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. But with nine minutes remaining in the half, Utah took control of the game with a crippling 13-1 run and never turned back, seeing their lead swell to 33 at one point in the second half.

Utah, who saw seven of their nine players score in double digits, was led by guard Andre Ingram, who poured in 23 points on impressive 7-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-8 from long distance. For his part, Jefferson filled the box score with 16 points, 12 assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block.

Miscues were the story for Bakersfield, who struggled to hold onto the ball and sent the Flash to the charity stripe 32 times for a ten-point free throw deficit. The Jam was led by Reece Gaines, who scored 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and dished out six assists. Goods finished with 15 points and five assists.

The Jam will host the Flash again on Saturday night at 7:00 PM at the Jam Events Center.
