Jam Fall to D-Fenders in Game 1

BAKERSFIELD, April 19, 2012 - The Bakersfield Jam squandered a double-digit lead and lost to the visiting Los Angeles D-Fenders 109-104 in game one of the semifinals on Thursday night.

Bakersfield led 26-19 after one period of play, led by Renaldo Major's nine points and Juan Patillo's six quick points off the bench. The Jam erupted on a 25-9 run to begin the second quarter, extending their lead to as many as 23 points. However, the D-Fenders rallied back late in the second quarter to cut the Jam's lead to eight points (56-48) at halftime. The D-Fenders' momentum to end the first half carried over to the third, outscoring the Jam 38-20 in the third period alone. Los Angeles built a 14 point lead in the fourth quarter but Bakersfield fought back furiously and turned their double-digit deficit into a one point lead midway through the fourth (95-94). Yet, the Jam's rally fell short in the end.

Bakersfield was led by Juan Pattillo with a team-high 28 points, eight rebounds and three blocks off the bench. Jeremy Wise scored 19 points and dished out five assists. Reserve Trey Johnson added 13 points and five assists, while Renaldo Major contributed 11 points.

Elijah Millsap led the way for the D-Fenders with a game-high 34 points. Reserve Malcom Thomas scored 21 points while Mardy Collins added 14 points off the bench. Orien Greene finished the night with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams travel southbound to Los Angeles to play the remainder of the semifinal series. Game two will be played on Saturday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. PT and if necessary, game three will be played on Tuesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. PT.
