Jake Allen Schools Wolves 2-0

January 23, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Peoria Rivermen News Release

Following a puck drop just after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jake Allen stopped all 27 Chicago Wolves as the Peoria Rivermen won 2-0 in front of 7,832 kids as part of the third annual Faceoff Field Trip. Andrew Murray and Brett Sonne scored the only goals of the game while Allen earned his second shutout of the season.

The Rivermen evened their record at 19-9-2-2 for 42 points in the season's first 42 games. Peoria has won their last two games and wrap up a four-game homestand on Saturday against Milwaukee.

Following a scoreless first period, and roughing minors to both Guillame Desbiens and Chris Porter, Murray broke the scorless tie during four-on-four play. He stole the puck away from Darren Haydar at the Rivermen blue line and took it the length of the ice for his eighth of the season. The unassisted tally came with just 3:13 left in the second period.

In the third, Anthony Nigro setup up Sonne just 3:30 into the frame to give the Rivermen a 2-0 lead. Nigro stole the puck in the slot and dished it over for Sonne who scored his third of the year and second in as many games.

The Rivermen outshot Chicago 32-27 and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Chicago went 0-for-3 on the man advantage.

The shutout for Allen was the ninth of his AHL career and first since he stopped 33 shots in Grand Rapids on Dec. 14, 2012.

The attendance increased during Peoria's annual Faceoff Fieldtrip for the second straight season. After drawing 5,1 17 on Nov. 17, 2010, the Rivermen drew 7,082 on Jan. 24 , 2012.

The Rivermen will host the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday at 7:35 p.m. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Ryan Reaves Bobblefist on their way through the door. For tickets or more information call 309-676-1040.
