August 23, 2016 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Akron Racers News Release

After being an NFCA First Team All-American at James Madison University, becoming the third overall and transitioning to a top rookie pitcher in the NPF this season, Akron Racer pitcher Jailyn Ford will be receiving another honor this fall, this time from her Alma Mater Bath County High School in Hot Springs, Virginia. Prior to Bath County's Homecoming football game against Pendleton (WV) High School, Ford will have her #12 jersey number retired by the school.

On Friday, September 16, Ford will be honored as the first female athlete in any sport to have her number retired in the school's history, after leading Bath County to the school's first state championships in any female team sport in back-to-back seasons of 2011 and 2012.

In 2012, Ford was named a MaxPreps.com Small School First Team All-American Pitcher and the Virginia Single A State Pitcher of the Year, after winning a state record 24 games as a senior. The four-time First Team All-State selection capped her high school career with school records with 1,065 strikeouts and 80 wins, both place her fifth all-time in Virginia history. Ford also compiled the third lowest career ERA in state history at 0.33.

Offensively, Ford hit for a .568 average, 21 home runs and drove in 120 RBI for the Chargers, where she also was a First Team All-District selection in basketball.

In her rookie season in the NPF, Ford led all rookies with 98.2 innings pitched, nine wins, 75 strikeouts, 25 appearances and 17 starts. In addition to leading the Racer pitching staff in all of those categories, Ford led the team with 6.74 hits per seven innings and tied for first with two shutouts. She also was second on the staff with a 3.69 ERA and six complete games.
