Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that rookie defenseman Jacob MacDonald has been loaned to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL).
MacDonald, 23, earns his first career AHL call-up after recording one of the most successful seasons by a Jackals defenseman in the team's history. The 6-foot 210-pound blueliner set a new team single-season record for goals scored by a defenseman with 17 and set a new single-season record for shots on goal by a defenseman with 192. MacDonald also recorded four shorthanded goals, which sets a new team record by a defenseman and his total has never been bested by a defenseman in ECHL history. In addition, MacDonald became the first Jackals defenseman to record an ECHL hat trick on Feb. 27 at Wheeling.
The rookie defenseman was the only Jackal to skate in all 72 regular-season games and ranked fourth on the team in goals (17), points (37) and plus-minus (+11). MacDonald led the team with four shorthanded goals and 192 shots on goals as well as finishing tied for second with four power-play goals.
MacDonald was named to the 2015-16 ECHL All-Rookie Team and earned the honor of being the AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for December.
Prior to turning pro, MacDonald recorded 21 points (four goals, 17 assists) in 104 NCAA games at Cornell University. Before suiting up for the Big Red, the Fernley, Nev. native skated for two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL) amassing 40 points (12 goals, 28 assists) in 87 games.
