Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO -- The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks snagged the series finale against the Sioux City Explorers, winning 6-5 in front of 3,545 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Tuesday.
The RedHawks got themselves back into the game with five runs in the fifth, after trailing 5-0. Nic Jackson extended his consecutive on-base streak to 28 games, going 2-for-4 with two clutch hits -- including a two-run home run to tie the game in the fifth and an RBI single in the seventh to score Zach Penprase for the go-ahead run. Penprase also went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and a stolen base.
"[The home run] felt pretty good coming off the bat," said Nic Jackson. "I fouled off a similar pitch earlier -- I know I couldn't miss another opportunity."
Bryan Pounds went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Sioux City Explorers (23-27) with a RBI and a run. Alberto Espinosa and Peter Barrows both had a hit each and accounted for four of the five Explorers RBIs.
Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (30-21) starter Alex Caldera got the no-decision, after giving up five runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Mackenzie King pitched a scoreless sixth and Joe Harris picked up the relief win throwing the final three innings to close out the game.
Explorers' starter Jason Jarvis worked six innings, giving up five runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Jimmer Kennedy gave up one run off of two hits to take the loss after coming out of the bullpen for the final two innings.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks hit the road for a four-game series in Gary but return home Monday, July 15, to take on the Sioux Falls Canaries. Tickets are available at fmredhawks.com or by calling (701) 235-6161.
