Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - Third-year play-by-play voice Tony Brown will not return to the Odessa Jackalopes broadcast booth for the 2013-14 season, as the Rochester, Minnesota native has accepted a similar role with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL), the Jackalopes announced Wednesday.
"We're very excited for Tony," said Jackalopes Team President Dan Lavergne Wednesday, "He's a great personality on the radio and a true professional in the front office and he did an outstanding job for us." A 2010 graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, Brown served as the Jacks' Director of Broadcasting, Media & Public relations during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the first two campaigns in the Jacks' NAHL era. "Tony gave us two great years here in Odessa," said Lavergne, "We wish him all the best in Omaha and can't thank him enough for everything he's done for the Jackalopes."
"I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the entire Jackalopes organization," said Brown Wednesday, "While I am excited about the next chapter in my career, it's tough to leave such a special place and special organization." Upon his departure from Odessa, Brown will join one of the most storied clubs in American junior hockey. In their 27 years of existence, the Lancers have captured five Anderson Cup championships as regular season USHL champions and seven Clark Cup titles as USHL playoff champs.
"I'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to [former Jackalopes owners] Bill and Tracey Nyborg, Rick Gasser, the entire Jackalopes ownership group, Paul Gillis, Matt Cressman and the Jackalopes' great front office staff for the faith they showed in me and the tremendous opportunity they gave me," said Brown, "Not to mention Steve Driscoll and everyone at Classic Rock 102 and the very best fans in the NAHL...Serving the Jacks has been a privilege and an honor and I'll always consider myself a Jackalope."
The team's search for Brown's replacement is already underway and an announcement from the Jackalopes is expected in the next two weeks.
