Jacklin and Vallorani Power Beast to 3-2 Overtime Win over Jackals

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Scott Jacklin produced his second multi-goal performance of the season, and David Vallorani provided the overtime heroics to propel the Brampton Beast to a thrilling 3-2-overtime victory in front of their home fans on Sunday afternoon at the Powerade Centre.
Also starring in this game was starting goaltender Zach Fucale, as he turned aside 21 shots en route to leading the Beast (9-7-1-2) to an impressive ninth straight victory over the Jackals (5-10-4-0).
However, while Fucale was called upon to make some difficult saves, credit also belongs to the Beast defense for the way they rebounded from allowing six goals to the Quad City Mallards on Friday night. They effectively supported their goaltender by delivering solid checks and making good stick plays to limit secondary chances.
While the Beast came out on top at the end of the game, it was the Elmira Jackals who drew first blood with a shorthanded goal at 7:54 as Sebastien Sylvestre snapped the puck past Fucale on an odd-man rush.
The resilient Beast responded with the equalizer just 21 seconds later at 7:33 on the man advantage as Scott Jacklin banged home the rebound off of a shot from the high slot from Luke Pither.
However, the Jackals responded with their second go-ahead goal of the frame as Matt Lane rifled a rebound into the Beast cage at 16:25 for his first ever ECHL goal.
Elmira fended off some solid pressure from Brampton to maintain its edge on the scoreboard heading into the first intermission. The Jackals outshot the Beast 9-8 in the frame.
Both teams traded momentum throughout the second stage of the game. After an early push by the Jackals, the Beast ramped up their play and controlled the middle portion of the period with a dominant cycle attack that caused the Jackals skaters to be under siege in their own zone multiple times. A solid penalty kill late in the frame allowed the Jackals to regain momentum, and they proceeded to test Fucale with multiple attempts on a power play of their own.
While Fucale was sharp, it was Jackals staring goaltender Andy Iles who had a more difficult workload in the period as he was forced to make a few flashy pad stops to preserve his team's edge on the scoreboard heading into the second intermission.
The Beast outshot the Jackals 11-8 in the period to pull ahead to an 18-17 lead in the contest.
It was the Beast that began the final period of regulation time with more urgency in their game. They managed to reprise their strong forechecking efforts of the second period, and as a result the Jackals had very shot attempts toward Fucale.
Jacklin broke through with the game-tying goal for his team at 11:51 by beating Iles on a shorthanded breakaway with a beautiful wrist shot that went over the goaltender's glove and connected with the top right corner of the net. He now has a career-high six goals this season.
The ice tightened up considerably after the Jacklin tally. Neither Brampton nor Elmira were gifted with a Grade 'A' chance to end the game before the 60-minute mark.
It only took 59 seconds into the five-minute overtime period for Vallorani to lift his team to a big-time win. He made no mistake firing the puck through the pads of Iles after receiving a perfect centering pass from Pither on a two-on-one rush.
As a result of this win, Brampton has now recorded two wins and one loss three games into their eight-game home stand. The Beast will look to improve that record when they face off against the Indy Fuel on Wednesday, December 7 at 11 a.m. at the Powerade Centre.
Notes: The Beast went 1-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. The Beast now has two shorthanded goals on the season. Brampton is 9-for-9 on the penalty kill in December. Vallorani pulled into a tie with Pacan for the team lead in goals with his 11th tally of the season. Iles stopped 25 of 28 shots in defeat.
