Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Charleston, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs scored 11 runs in the first four innings and never looked back with a 15-6 win over the Augusta GreenJackets on Wednesday night. With the win, Charleston takes two of three from the Jackets in this series.

For the second straight night, the Dogs jumped out in the second inning. Emerson Landoni's single put Charleston on the board and Slade Heathcott followed with a two-run double to make it a 3-0 lead after two innings. Heathcott doubled twice and knocked in four runs while Landoni drove in three runs as part of a 5-5 night. Charleston sent 12 to the plate and scored seven times in the third to take a ten-run lead and added to it on the second Heathcott double in the fourth.

In the sixth, the GreenJackets showed some life as they would send ten to the plate and score six times to the cut lead down to five runs. Ryan Cavan beat out a double play ball to put the Jackets on the board in an inning that featured a two-run single from Eliezer Zambrano and a two-run double by Luke Anders. Daniel Cook singled home Anders to complete the six-run frame.

Gabriel Tatis (1-2) came out of the Charleston bullpen to slam the door shut, getting the last out of the sixth before keeping Augusta scoreless in the seventh and eighth. He retired seven of the nine hitters he faced with two walks making the only blemishes against his line.

JR Murphy singled in a run as part of his four-hit night to put the Dogs up by six again in the sixth and with the pitching of Tatis in the mix, any momentum the GreenJackets accumulated was gone. With shortstop Juan Martinez on to pitch the eighth, Charleston scored three more times to make the game a laugher.

Kyle Vazquez delivered his shortest start of the year - just 2.1 innings in the loss. Vazquez (4-2) allowed seven runs on eight hits with three walks and one strikeout.

The GreenJackets return home to host the Savannah Sand Gnats for the first of four games that will decide the Southern Division Championship in the first half. Chris Heston (2-6, 5.74) takes the mound for the GreenJackets in game one. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
