Jackals Raise $14,200 for Family of Kelley Stage in Jersey Auction

March 18, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL) - Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - The Brampton Beast (35-20-3-4) scored three power-play goals and defeated the Elmira Jackals (14-41-7-1), 6-2, during the team's Domestic Violence Awareness Night. In the process, the Jackals raised $14,200 for the family of Kelley Stage through their postgame jersey auction of their domestic violence awareness purple and grey jerseys. The Jackals raised additional money through the sale of fundraising tickets.

After a stalemate the majority of the first period, Brampton opened the scoring with back-to-back goals late in the first to take a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Beast captain Brandon Marino started it with a rebound goal at 17:32 to give the Beast a 1-0 lead. Connor Crisp got the puck along the left wing, skated to the left circle and fired a shot on goal, which was stopped by Jason Kasdorf, but the puck squirted free and Marino dove to poke the puck in for Brampton.

Brampton doubled the lead with under a minute to play in the period. With the Beast on a power play, Luke Pither received a pass in the high slot and sent a twisted wrist shot past Kasdorf to give the Beast a 2-0 lead at 19:25 of the opening period.

Pither struck on another Brampton power play in the second period, ripping a shot from the top of the right circle at 6:39 to give the Beast a 3-0 lead. The Jackals finally responded with a power-play goal of their own late in the second period. Nathan Moon won the battle along the left wall and found Davis Vandane at the blue line. He skated to the center point and wristed a shot toward the goal, which was deflected in by Kenton Miller for his 25th goal of the season at 19:21, pulling the Jackals within two after two period.

Brampton pulled away in the third period. Connor Crisp made it a 4-1 Beast lead at 7:13, with a deflection for a power-play goal. After a Kenton Miller goal was inexcusably waved off, the Beast made it a 5-1 game with a point shot from Willie Corrin at 11:20.

The Jackals pushed back again with a rebound goal from Mark Bennett at 13:55, but Jordan Henry iced it with an empty-net goal to give the Beast a 6-2 victory.
