Elmira Jackals Monthly

Keeping You Up To Speed With the "Pack"

July, 2013 - Vol 1, Issue 2

The last month has been busy as we have entered full off-season mode. The schedule has been released, the roster is beginning to take shape, new sponsors and season ticket holders are signing up each day, and the staff recently returned from the annual trip to Las Vegas for the league meetings. This issue of Jackals Monthly will catch you up on everything that has been going on lately and we hope you enjoy it!

Jackals Extend Six Qualifying Offers

On June 1 the Jackals announced the players from the 2012-13 team to whom they extended qualifying offers. The group included four forwards and two defensemen; and all were key contributors on the 40-win club.

The qualifying offers were extended to Rob Bellamy, Jean Bourbeau, Kyle Bushee, Artem Demkov, Jordan Pietrus and Jordon Southorn. The qualifying offer ensures that the Jackals hold exclusive negotiating rights with those players and have, at the least, protected their ECHL rights for the 2013-14 season. Since Jean Bourbeau and Kyle Bushee qualify as ECHL veterans (260 or more pro games), they become unrestricted free agents after August 31 if they have not signed their qualifying offer or agreed to terms on a contract.

Jackals 2013-14 Schedule Revealed

As summer sets in, most hockey fans long for a sign that the start of the season is drawing near. October can seem like a lifetime away when the calendar still reads June, but Jackals fans got a boost of excitement when the 2013-14 schedule was revealed on June 20.

The schedule features a bevy of rivalry games against Atlantic Division foes Reading and Wheeling. When Trenton ceased operations this offseason Elmira, Reading and Wheeling were left to battle it out for the Atlantic crown and one of the top three seeds in the Kelly Cup playoffs.

The 2013-14 schedule is crazy convenient with 29 of the 36 home dates falling on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. It also sets up well from a competitive standpoint because Elmira has 24 of its 36 home games scheduled for the final three months of the season. Elmira has won 20 or more home games in each of the last two seasons so that home-heavy second half will put them in good position for a strong playoff push.

Don't forget that Jackals season tickets are also on sale right now. They offer a ton of great benefits and the best per-game price you can find. You can reserve your season tickets with a $100 deposit per seat, and the balance isn't due until October 1, 2013. Season tickets can be purchased over the phone by calling 607-734-7825 or by visiting the First Arena Box Office during summer hours which are 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tracking Blade

First Arena Staying Busy

First Arena is slammed with action during hockey season with all of the Jackals games, Jackals youth hockey, and adult league hockey games that take place. But just because the ice is off of the main rink, it doesn't mean the arena sits idly by. Summer can be just as busy as the winter.

This summer has been particularly exciting with two brand-new events. First Arena Comedy Club has been a hit since its debut in June. Each Thursday night top stand-up comedians from the region have brought plenty of laughs to First Arena's restaurant. Also making its debut on July 13 will be Dolls of Destruction roller derby. These rough-and-tumble ladies will bring their sport to the concrete on the main rink at First Arena three times this summer. The competition will be fast, fierce, and in your face.

You won't find a better bang for your buck as tickets for each of these events range between $8 and $14.

If old-fashioned family entertainment is what you're looking for, then you won't want to miss Disney Junior Live on Tour! Pirate and Princess Adventure on August 24.
