Adirondack Phantoms News Release

Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Phantoms are proud to announce that J.P. Testwuide has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Adirondack region during the 2010-11 season.

J.P. Testwuide has helped with youth hockey practices and clinics, has read to kids in local schools, and served as a celebrity bartender to benefit his charity of choice. Testwuide is eager to help and will even assist with multiple community appearances in the same day to promote the many causes in which the Phantoms are involved.

Testwuide also has fun with his role in the community. A few weeks ago he appeared at J.P. Bruno's along with Kevin Marshall. "It was really fun. Marsh and I were able to serve drinks to the Phantoms fans for a couple hours," Testwuide said. "All the tips went to charities of our choice. So it was for a good cause and we were able to speak with the fans and get to know them and they got to know us."

Testwuide knew where he wanted to contribute his share of the proceeds. "My half is going for the Naval Special Warfare Foundation. I just like the charity and I think it's a good cause."

Earlier on that same day he was involved with the Phantoms Reading to Kids program.

"I was at Hartford Elementary in kind of a school assembly. And that was for a good cause too," Testwuide said. "The kids were doing their read-a-thon and they have to read for fifteen minutes every day for a week and I was there to read them a little story."

His book of choice was an easy call, "The Magic Hockey Stick. I've read it many times. It's about Wayne Gretzky's hockey stick. It's a good story and I hope the kids enjoyed it."

Testwuide is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2010-11 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.

Logan Stephenson won the Phantoms honor last year. Denis Hamel won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award for the entire league in 2007-08 as a member of the Binghamton Senators.
