Isotopes Walk Off With 7-6 Win

Game Keys - J.D. Closser fly ball to centerfield scored Corey Smith from third base and the Isotopes walked off with a 7-6 win in front of 6,501 fans at Isotopes Park. The Isotopes jumped on Zephyr starter Tom Koehler in the first inning with two runs off of five hits. Joe Thurston smoked a home run in the second inning to cut the lead in half. The Topes tacked on two more runs in the second inning and to grab an early 4-1 lead. New Orleans fought back with two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh inning to tie the game. Corey Smith smoked a solo homer in the seventh to give Albuquerque a 6-5 lead. The Z's took advantage of two walks and an error to tie the game in the eighth inning. In the ninth the Isotopes got a lead-off hit from Smith a single for Trent Oeltjen and a sacrifice fly brought home the game winning run. Merkin Valdez earned the win in relief and Steven Cishek took the loss for the Zephyrs. Thurston led the way for the Z's with three hits and three RBI. Z's starter Tom Koehler settled down after two innings and pitched five innings and didn't factor in the decision.

Game Notes - Joe Thurston has reached base in all 17 starts this season. Tom Koehler allowed nine hits in the start on Monday, he allowed a total of ten hits in his previous three starts. The Z's are now 7-3 in one run games. New Orleans has dropped 16 of the past 19 games at Isotopes Park.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Isotopes meet for the final game of the series with a Tuesday afternoon matinee at 1:05. New Orleans will start RH Adalberto Mendez (1-1, 7.02) vs. LH Dana Eveland (2-1, 3.93).
