Isotopes Sweep Redbirds Away

Elian Herrera went 2-for-4 from the plate scoring a run in Albuquerque's (39-32) 4-3 win over Memphis (35-37) Monday night to complete the sweep of the four-game set. Aaron Laffey (3-3, 5.84) tossed 6.2 innings of three run ball on four hits, earning the win for Albuquerque. The southpaw has gone at least six innings in his last three starts. He also walked two and struck out two.

Brian Barden tripled in the sixth inning extending his hitting streak to 12 games. He has hit safely in the most consecutive games of any Isotope this season. The third baseman's extra bagger doubled the Isotopes lead, 4-2.

Jose Dominguez made his second appearance in as many nights, pitching a hitless third of an inning. The righty struck out Kolten Wong with the bases loaded to preserve the 4-3 lead in the seventh. Lefty Kelvin De La Cruz pitched two scoreless innings of the relief, earning his third save of the season.

Right Fielder Chili Buss (2-for-4, RBI) and Barden put the Isotopes on the scoreboard in the first frame. Buss singled to left scoring Herrera and Barden walked with the bases loaded.

Albuquerque tacked on a run in the second but Memphis came back with two of their own in the third. Wong, the Cardinal's third ranked prospect, drove in the second run on a sacrifice fly. Carlos Martinez (1-1, 2.45) took his first loss of the season. He pitched 4.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits.

The Isotopes hit the road tomorrow for five games in four days against the Omaha Storm Chasers. Righty Matt Palmer (2-3, 4.68) will open the series for Albuquerque against Omaha's southpaw Chris Dwyer (5-4, 3.36) for the 6:05 p.m. start. The Isotopes return home for a four-game series against division rival Round Round beginning this Saturday, June 22 at 7:05 PM MDT.
