Isotopes Rally Comes up Short; Chihuahuas Split Series with 7-6 Win

July 3, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (39-48) ran into some early trouble Thursday night, falling behind 4-0 through just two innings against the El Paso Chihuahuas (42-46). The Isotopes would rally though to tie that game at six before ultimately bowing 7-6 to the Chihuahuas at Southwest University Park in El Paso, TX.

CRITICAL MOMENT: Albuquerque tied the game at six all in the top of the seventh, and Topes reliever Paco Rodriguez seemed to be on cruise control in the bottom half of the inning. He induced two quick groundball outs before Chihuahuas left fielder Jonathan Galvez stepped to the plate and smacked a 2-0 pitch over the left center field wall to put El Paso up 7-6. The Isotopes never found an answer.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC?: Four of the Isotopes six runs Thursday night scored with two outs. Walter Ibarra provided the first two-out RBI with a single to center field in the third inning, scoring Delvis Morales. Albuquerque's biggest punch came in the seventh inning when three runs crossed with two down to tie the game at six all. Morales scampered home on a two-out single by Trayvon Robinson, who later advanced to third on a throwing error. Walter Ibarra followed with an RBI single and advanced to third on a single by Tim Federowicz before Brock Peterson tied the game with a single of his own.

DELVIS WHO?: Infielder Delvis Morales turned in the best Triple-A game of his career Thursday night. He was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a hit by pitch. Morales joined the Isotopes on June 15 from the Rookie-level Ogden Raptors.

ON DECK: The Isotopes will welcome the division-leading Las Vegas 51s to town for a four-game, three-day series beginning Friday at 6:05 p.m. Right-hander JeffBennett (4-3, 3.29 ERA) is slated to take the hill for Albuquerque, while Las Vegas will go with lefty Darin Gorski (2-2, 3.97 ERA).

FOURTH OF JULY: Independence Day festivities include post-game fireworks presented by U.S. Bank, weather permitting. Gates will open early at 4:30 p.m. on Friday night for the 6:05 p.m. first pitch. Berm tickets for Friday night's game are now on sale for $9 at Isotopes Park BoxOffice and at Ticketmaster outlets, including internet, phone, and retail locations.
