Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Charlottetown - The Charlottetown Islanders love getting shutouts on the ice. But now, they're working on some shutouts off the ice, too.

The team is proud to announce its "Shut Out Bullying" Tour, in association with EA Mobile and PEI Crime Stoppers, in which Islanders players will travel to schools across the province and talk to students about the importance of eliminating bullying.

Craig Foster, President of Operations for the Islanders, said it is important for the players to send a strong message to their young fans.

"No one likes to hear stories of bullying in schools," he said. "These guys are role models for many kids in P.E.I., so to hear this message coming from their idols should really help it stick."

PEI Crime Stoppers coordinator Phil Pitts said the involvement of school boards and the Islanders shows how much support there is for students.

"We are hoping that by doing these presentations, students will feel more comfortable and confident in standing up for themselves, supporting others, and knowing that there is help and support for them if they are victims of bullying."

EA Mobile is honored to be part of the initiative and is doing their part to help put an end to bullying.

"We have a strong commitment to our community and are motivated to support the Islanders as they speak to students about anti-bullying," said Matthew Edwards, Executive Producer for EA Mobile. "We're very pleased to be positively helping our youth with communication skills and conflict resolution. This is a serious problem that can have devastating results, and one we care about deeply as a studio."

The tour begins on Jan. 26, with a trip to École FranÃ- ois-Buote, and will include stops to several English- and French-language schools across P.E.I.

The Islanders will also be holding their annual Anti-Bullying Game on Feb. 18 as the team takes on the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Fans will be encouraged to wear pink to the game to show their support for the cause.
