HAWAIIAN ISLANDERS “YOU’RE IN THE GAME!” EXPERIENCE

*On Saturday, November 2, 2002 at Maunawili Elementary School the Hawaiian IslandersÂ’ players and staff members put on an obstacle course for the kids and families of the OYSL youth football league. It was surely a fun-filled day for everyone.

*On Saturday, November 9, 2002 at Mililani District Park the Hawaiian Islanders had another exciting day with the youth football kids and families. There was an obstacle course, broad jump, quarterback pass, and 20-yard dash for the kids to test their skills.

*On Saturday, November 16, 2002 the Hawaiian Islanders were at Ewa Beach District Park for another interactive day with the youth of Hawaii. Despite a little drizzle here and there, it still turned out to be a bright day for all the kids.

OAHU YOUTH SPORTS LEAGUE AWARD BANQUETS

*The Hawaiian Islanders are proud to present the Hawaiian Islanders “You’re IN the Game” Award to an outstanding parent, coach, or volunteer who has gone above and beyond the call in support of the teams in the different areas. The awards are being presented at the OYSL Award Banquets to the following recipients:
Waipio Panthers – Lehua Torres
Palama Scorpions – Ronnie Hill
Windward Tigers – David Larsen
Kapolei Warriors – Fran Settell
Kalihi Vikings – Chris Caballero

Awards for the Wahiawa Thunderbolts, Ewa Beach Cardinals, Waikele, Waipahu, and Kuhio will be presented at a later date.

Darrick Branch, a former player for the Hawaiian Islanders, served as a guest speaker at each OYSL Award Banquet. He encouraged all participants to maintain academic excellence, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The Hawaiian Islanders are proud to have formed this partnership with the OYSL. The Hawaiian Islanders are donating a percentage of game day ticket revenue to the OYSL in hopes for brighter futures for our youth.

KAPOLEI CAREER DAY

*On Friday, December 6, 2002, a few Hawaiian Islanders football players and office staff spoke at Kapolei Middle School’s “Road to Success” Career Day. They talked about having a career in sports marketing, a career as a professional athlete, staying in school, setting goals, having determination and heart, and not doing drugs.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

*On December 6, 2002, the Hawaiian Islanders were at the Aloha Stadium promoting the upcoming 2003 season with Head Coach Cal Lee and season ticket specials.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDERS DANCER TRYOUTS

*Interested in being a Hawaiian Islanders Dancer? If you are, applications are available at www.hawaiianislanders.com or call (808) 53-ARENA. Mail or drop-off application and $10 fee to the address below (Attn: Islander girls) by Thursday, December 12, 2002. Please include a non-returnable photograph of yourself (resume is optional). Any applications not turned in by December 12 should be brought on first day of tryouts with a $15 fee. You may also fill out an application on the day of the audition. If you choose to do so, please bring a non-returnable photo of yourself and the $15 fee with you that day.

DATE: December 15-16 (Sunday- Monday)
TIME: Sunday 10:00am-5:30pm (Check-in will begin promptly at 10:00am), Monday (Final cuts) 5:30pm-9:30pm
LOCATION: St. Louis High School Fieldhouse
COST: $10 before December 12, $15 after December 12 (All funds go back to the 2003 Islander Girls squad)
