Islanders Agree to Terms with Sim

BRIDGEPORT, CONN, August 3, 2010 - The New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract with Jon Sim.
The native of New Glasgow, NS, Sim, recorded 22 points (13 goals, nine assists) in 77 games last season, his third with the Islanders.
During the 2008-09 season, the 32-year-old winger split the season between the Islanders and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In 49 games with the Islanders, Sim recorded nine goals and six assists for 15 points. With the Sound Tigers, Sim averaged over a point per game with 23 (13 goals, 10 assists) in 18 games. The New Glasgow, NS, native will enter his thirteenth professional season in 2010-11.
"Jon brings an unmatched work ethic and veteran leadership to our lineup and we're excited to have him back for the upcoming season," Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said.
Sim, a 5'10, 195 lbs. left wing, has 135 points (74 goals, 61 assists) in 435 career NHL games over the course of his 12-year career. He has played in a total of 164 career AHL games with the Utah Grizzlies, Philadelphia Phantoms and Sound Tigers, totaling 162 points (87 goals, 75 assists).
The 5'10, 190 pound winger was a selection of the Dallas Stars in the third round (70th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
