Jamestown Ironmen News Release

The Jamestown Ironmen grabbed their second win in two days on Sunday evening with a 2-1 victory over the Port Huron Fighting Falcons in North American Hockey League play at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.

Ross Pavek started off the scoring for Jamestown with a goal 14:20 into the first period with assists from Nico Sierra and Tyler Dunagan.

Port Huron (18-20-3) answered with a second period goal and the two clubs headed into the third all knotted up, 1-1. The final period of regulation was scoreless until defensemen; Michael Mazzotta netted a goal to give the Ironmen the edge with only 4:14 left on the clock. Mazzotta's goal proved to be the game winner and was assisted by Joe Mottiqua and Elliot Tisdale.

Jamestown (25-9-3) outshot the opponent, 42-17 and Tim Shaughnessy made 16 saves on the night in goal for the Ironmen, improving his record to 8-4-2 on the season.

"It was a good game by both teams today," said Ironmen Head Coach Dan Daikawa. "It was the third game in three days for both teams. We threw everything we had at them, their goaltender played great and they proved they are a good team."

Although Daikawa couldn't help but give credit to the visitors, he was also excited about where his team is at the moment. The Ironmen went 2-1 on the weekend, splitting with the North Division leading Soo Eagles (26-10-3) on Friday and Saturday. Soo also lost on Sunday, so with the victory over Port Huron, Jamestown sits only two points behind the Eagles in the standings with a pair of games in hand on the first place team.

Jamestown gets back into action this upcoming weekend with a pair of games in Kalamazoo where they will take the Jr. K-Wings. The road trip will offer an opportunity for the Ironmen to get back on top of the North Division standings as the first place Eagles are idle this weekend.

The Ironmen won't return home until the end of the month for another three game home stand. The home weekend will kick off on Thursday January 31 and it will be the Ironmen School Day Game with a special start time of 11am. Many area schools are taking advantage of the field trip opportunity and sending their students to enjoy a day at the Ironmen game.
