IronBirds Winning Streak Ends at Five Games

Aberdeen, MD - The Aberdeen IronBirds five-game winning streak halted Wednesday night, as they fell to the Tri-City ValleyCats 6-2.
The ValleyCats jumped all over Aberdeen starting pitcher Tyler Sexton. In the first, with Ben Orloff on second and two outs, Ben Heath hit an RBI-single to put Tri-City on top, 1-0.
They struck again in the second. Daniel Adamson led off the inning with an automatic double. He moved to third on a fly out before scoring on a ground out to third base, making it 2-0.
Tri-City scored once again in the fourth. Michael Kvasnicka led off the inning with a double. Buck Afenir knocked him in with another double, extending the ValleyCats lead to three.
Sexton surrendered two more runs in the fifth. Orloff worked a walk. Enrique Herndandez doubled, knocking in Orloff. Kvasnicka then knocked in Hernandez with a triple, making it a 5-0 ball game.
Sexton left the game after the fifth. He surrendered five runs, all earned, on seven hits (six for extra bases). He walked one and struck out five.
The IronBirds finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth. Trent Mummey doubled. He advanced to third on a ground out, and then scored on a Brandon Snyder ground ball out to second base.
Aberdeen got their second and final run in the seventh. David Anderson tripled to the right field wall. He scored on an Austin Rauch sacrifice fly.
Tri-City tacked on the sixth run in the ninth. Wilton Infante led off the inning with a walk. He advanced to second on a sac bunt and got to third on a passed ball. Hernandez knocked him in with a sac fly, making it 6-2.
Jake Buchanan got the win for the ValleyCats. He's now 2-2. Sexton took the loss, dropping to 1-3.
The IronBirds will meet the ValleyCats in the rubber game of this three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. RHP Tim Adleman (0-1, 3.20) will be on the hill for the IronBirds. He'll go up against LHP Alex Sogard (1-0, 1.69).
