Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Rain Again

Last night's series finale between the Aberdeen IronBirds and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers was postponed due to rain. No makeup date has been announced. Tonight, the IronBirds continue their home stand as they welcome in the Tri-City ValleyCats, the Short Season A Affiliate of the Houston Astros. The two teams met earlier this season up at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy, New York. The IronBirds won two of the three games played in the series. The ValleyCats won the middle game of the series, a 2-1 victory in 12 innings.

Seven in a row

The ValleyCats have lost seven games in a row coming into play tonight. They are 2-8 in their last ten games and have seen their lead in the Stedler Division disappear. The Lowell Spinners have won three in a row and six of ten to tie for the division lead as the season's final full month begins. The Vermont Lake Monsters sit just three games back of both teams.

Aberdeen holds on to second place

Even though they didn't play last night, the IronBirds still hold second place by themselves entering action today. In the month of July, the IronBirds spent just four days in third place. Every other day saw them either sharing the lead or in second place.

It's never too early...

The IronBirds trail the Hudson Valley Renegades by 2.5 games in the McNamara Division, and are very much in contention in the Wild Card. Tri-City and Lowell are tied for the Wild Card lead, while State College, Williamsport, Vermont, Aberdeen, and Batavia are all within 3.5 games of the final playoff spot. The IronBirds have never been in a playoff game in franchise history.

On the mound tonight...

RHP Janser Severino takes the mound for the Aberdeen looking to do his part in clinching a series win in tonight's rubber match. He has 4.01 ERA in 33.2 innings pitched. He's averaging nearly a strikeout per inning, racking up 31 so far this season. RHP Michael Feliz will oppose him. Feliz is 3-2 on the season, but has a 1.49 ERA in eight previous appearances. In his last outing, Feliz pitched three innings of relief against the Connecticut Tigers, allowing four hits and striking out four.
