Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Mancini, Kemp Power IronBirds to 6-2 win

Last night, the IronBirds rode the bats of Trey Mancini and Jeff Kemp, who both homered in the fourth inning, giving the IronBirds a 3-1 lead over the Hudson Valley Renegades. Mike Yastrzemski, who came in as a pinch hitter for Sam Kimmel, was 2-2 with two singles, an RBI, and a run scored as he helped give the IronBirds a few insurances runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Jimmy Yacabonis worked the ninth and preserved Aberdeen's 6-2 win.

Turning it around

The IronBirds already broke a 15 game losing streak to Hudson Valley earlier this series. They continue to reverse a couple of trends in this series. The last time Aberdeen won consecutive games against Hudson Valley was August 5th, 7th, and 8th of 2011 (There was a rainout on the 6th). The IronBirds can claim a three game sweep tonight with a win. The last time that happened was July 5th-7th, 2006 at Ripken Stadium.

Vader gets his second win on the season

IronBirds' RHP Sebastian Vader earned his second victory of the 2013 season last night. He went 6.1 innings, allowed four hits, two runs (both earned), walking one, and striking out six. In four starts this season, Vader has allowed 19 hits, ten runs (eight earned), and three walks, while recording 19 strikeouts in 24.1 innings. His record stands at 2-1 and he currently holds a 2.96 ERA.

On the mound tonight...

The IronBirds will send RHP Janser Severino to the hill looking for the sweep tonight. Severino is 0-1 with a 2.38 ERA. His last appearance was his first start of the season. He went 3.2 innings, allowed just one hit, walking one and striking out two back on June 28th against the Staten Island Yankees. The IronBirds would go on to win the game, 2-1 in extra innings on a walk-off wild pitch.

Returning home...briefly

After tonight's game, the IronBirds will return home for a brief three game series with the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Cyclones are currently in the basement of the McNamara Division. The last time the Cyclones visited Ripken Stadium, the IronBirds swept a two game series with scores of 3-0 and 7-5. LHP Mitch Horacek is expected to get his second professional start on Thursday. Brooklyn will counter with RHP Seth Lugo. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
