Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY - It was a tale of two games on Friday night at MCU Park. For the first five innings Brooklyn was well in control holding a 2-0 lead with Merandy Gonzalez mowing down the IronBirds. But soon after, it was all Aberdeen as they scored eight runs over 3.2 innings against the Brooklyn bullpen and ran away with an 11-2 victory. Nick Sergakis went 3-for-4 on the night to pace the Brooklyn bats.
The game was scoreless through the first two innings before the Cyclones, with two-outs in the third, opened it up the scoring when Colby Woodmansee stroked a line drive to the right-center field gap that brought Gene Cone in for the score.
Woodmansee also accounted for the Cyclones second run of the game, again plating Gene Cone this time on a sacrifice fly to extend Brooklyn's lead to 2-0 after five.
The IronBirds were unable to find an answer for Cyclones starting pitcher Merandy Gonzalez (2-2, 3.62) through the first five innings of play as he surrendered zero runs on only two hits. It was not until the sixth when the game made a 180 degree turn. Kirvin Moesquit reached base off a fielding error by Nick Sergakis and later scored when Gonzalez threw a wild pitch. The next two runs came when Jason Heinrich knocked an RBI-double and Alejandro Juvier was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 3-2 in favor of the IronBirds.
Gonzalez finished the night allowing three runs off five hits through 5.1 innings of play before handing the ball to RHP Alejandro Castro to close the sixth. Aberdeen then scored four in the eighth off of Dillon Becker and four more in the ninth off of reliever Taylor Henry. The Force Awakens tomorrow for Star Wars night as the Cyclones look to rebound in the final game of the series and Saturday night, the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 P.M. Don't miss out on Star Wars night, as there will 2,000 force sensitive fans who will be sporting their "Glowing" Brooklyn baseball caps. Tickets, which start at just $10, are still available by calling 718-507-TIXX, visiting BrooklynCyclones.com or in person at the MCU Park Box Office.
