Iowa's Defense Falters in Loss to Round Rock

April 25, 2017 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Iowa Cubs News Release

Round Rock, TX - The Iowa Cubs (9-10) tied a season-high mark with four errors to help the Round Rock Express (9-10) to a 9-2 victory, Monday at Dell Diamond. Five of Round Rock's runs were unearned, aided by Iowa's miscues in the field.

Iowa took the early lead with a first-inning run, but Round Rock quickly made up the ground. With two runners on in the first, Cesar Puello singled to center and an error by Todd Glaesmann allowed all runners to score on the play, including Puello. Josh Wilson furthered the damage in the second with a two-run homer, his first of the season.

With a 5-1 deficit, the I-Cubs inched closer with an RBI single from Glaesmann in the fourth. Round Rock kept the visitors at bay with a Jared Hoying solo shot in the fifth and added insurance in the late innings to solidify the final score.

Mark Zagunis extended his hitting streak to six games with a 2-for-3 night, while Tommy La Stella went 3-for-5 to boost Iowa's offense.

Iowa and Round Rock wrap up the series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The I-Cubs then return to Principal Park for a five-game series against Colorado Springs beginning Thursday. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
