Iowa Cubs News Release

The Iowa Cubs clobbered 16 hits en route to a 6-1 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks Sunday afternoon at Principal Park.

Chad Tracy, who was added to Iowa's roster today, was 4-for-5 with a double. Darwin Barney, Jim Adduci and Marquez Smith each added three hits of their own.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Smith homered, his first of the year, to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead. Oklahoma City tied it up in their half of the fifth as Wes Bankston launched a solo home run to left field. Bankston led the RedHawks with two hits.

The Cubs responded with another run in the bottom of the fifth inning to regain the lead, 2-1. Barney, Tracy and Micah Hoffpauir hit back-to-back-to-back singles and Barney scored the go-ahead run. Iowa then added an insurance run in the sixth as Adduci led off with a double. He was driven in on Matt Camp's RBI groundout for the 3-1 Iowa advantage.

A three-run eighth-inning solidified Iowa's lead. Adduci collected his third hit of the game with one out. Smith then doubled to plate Adduci and Sam Fuld hit an RBI single to score Smith. Fuld then scored when Barney doubled, for the 6-1 final.

Iowa's Mitch Atkins (2-1, 2.70) picked up the win allowing one run on three hits in five innings pitched. Blake Parker pitched a scoreless inning in relief to earn his first save of the season. Jailen Peguero (1-1, 3.60) was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in two innings of work.

The Cubs and RedHawks meet for the series finale Monday at 12:05 p.m. at Principal Park.
