Iowa and New Orleans Split

Iowa Cubs News Release
Metairie, LA - Ryan Williams hurled five three-hit innings as the Iowa Cubs (6-8) won their second contest of the evening against the New Orleans Zephyrs (6-10) with a 5-0 shutout victory Friday night at Zephyr Field.
John Andreoli hit a single to open the game, stole second and scored on a double from Willson Contreras to give the I-Cubs the first lead of the ball game. The run was just the second first-inning run for the I-Cubs all season. Iowa slowly built on its lead as Munenori Kawasaki knocked in a run in the second and Contreras and Matt Murton each tallied a RBI in the fourth to help their team to a 4-0 edge. Both teams were quiet until the ninth when Kristopher Negr?"n and Logan Watkins banged back-to-back doubles to add an insurance run.
Iowa pitchers stifled the Zephyrs at the plate, holding them to five hits - a season low for the I-Cubs' staff. Williams (1-1) took his first Triple-A victory after throwing five innings with four walks and three strikeouts. Out of the bullpen, Armando Rivero, Carl Edwards Jr. and Jean Machi contributed to the shutout.
Contreras kept his consecutive on-base streak alive with a 2-for-4 night and has now reached safely in each of his first 12 Triple-A games. Andreoli and Negr?"n both added multi-hit games, respectively their second and fifth of the season.
Iowa returns to Principal Park for an eight-game homestand beginning tomorrow at 7:08 p.m. Promotions include Buffalo Wild Wings Pre-Game Catch on the Field, Saturday and Jake Arrieta Beanie Beard Night on April 25. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
