International League Players of the Week

May 22, 2017 - International League (IL1) News Release

The International League announced today that first baseman Jason Rogers and left-handed pitcher Steven Brault, both of Indianapolis, have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 15-21. They are the first members of the Indians to be so honored this season, and the first IL teammates to sweep a pair of weekly awards since Durham last July. This marks the first time Indianapolis has captured both IL weekly awards since rejoining the circuit in 1998.

JASON ROGERS, Indianapolis Indians IL BATTER OF THE WEEK The red-hot Indianapolis Indians have vaulted to the top of the IL West Division thanks to an eight- game winning streak this week. Leading the way was Jason Rogers, hitting .400 with two doubles, two homers, and a League-best eleven RBI. He was 2nd in the circuit in both hits (11) and total bases (22). Seven of his eleven RBI came with two outs, and he finished the week strong by driving in at least one run in each of his last five games. His last RBI of the week came on a solo homer that tied Sunday's game against Toledo in the 8th inning, allowing the Indians the opportunity to ultimately win it in 11 innings. On the year, Rogers is now hitting .291 and is 2nd on his Indians club in hits, home runs, and RBI.

29-year-old Jason Rogers is in his eighth season as a professional player after being drafted by Milwaukee in 2010. He was traded to Pittsburgh prior to last season, hitting .263 in 105 games for Indianapolis. Rogers is a veteran of 117 games at the big league level with the Brewers and Pirates. Rogers is a native of East Point, Georgia.

STEVEN BRAULT, Indianapolis Indians IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK On the hill at the start of two of Indy's wins this week was lefty Steven Brault, who surrendered just one run on five hits over 13.0 total innings of work. He picked up the victory that ignited Indy's current eight-game winning streak in Game 1 of Tuesday's double-header with Columbus. Brault worked 6.0 frames, allowing a run on two-hits with six strikeouts as Indy prevailed 5-1. Back on the hill Sunday against Toledo, Brault tossed a season-high 7.0 innings of scoreless baseball, departing with a 1-0 lead despite ultimately not factoring in the decision. Brault, now 2-3 on the year, is 3rd in the International League in both innings pitched (49.2) and ERA (2.54).

25-year-old Steven Brault is in his fifth season as a professional pitcher after being drafted by Baltimore in 2013. He was traded to Pittsburgh prior to the 2015 campaign, and last season he made both his Triple-A and MLB debuts. Brault is a native of La Mesa, California.
