SYDNEY, NS - The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles scored four times in the second period on their way to a 6-2 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs Friday at Centre 200.

Pierre-Luc Dubois had two goals and two assists for Cape Breton (37-24-5-1) while Michael Joly and Alexandre Gosselin had two goals and an assist each. The Screaming Eagles have won six straight games.

Sam Povorozniouk and Jordan King replied for Saint John (42-19-6-0) which have dropped two straight.

The loss ensures the Sea Dogs will finish third in the overall standings.

A complete scoring summary is available HERE.

Saint John enjoyed two power plays in the opening period - including a 4 on-3 man advantage for nearly a minute - but were not able to beat Screaming Eagles' goalie Alexandre Belanger.

The Sea Dogs also snubbed Cape Breton's lone man advantage.

The game remained scoreless after twenty minutes, but it was a costly period for the Sea Dogs' defence.

Luke Green left the game after taking a hit from behind five minutes in. He did not return.

Thomas Chabot also left the game due to injury near the halfway mark of the period. He played part of the second period before leaving again for the rest of the night. The team started the game without key forwards Matthew Highmore, Mathieu Joseph and Adam Marsh, along with defencemen Bailey Webster and Alexandre Bernier, who all missed the game with injuries.

The Screaming Eagles took command in the second.

Just 1:46 in, Maxim Baillargeon drove the puck toward the net along the goal line on the left side. He jammed it in front where Joly ripped it into an open net, past a helpless Marc-Antoine Turcotte in the Saint John goal.

Gosselin's first of the night came just beyond the nine-minute mark when the blueliner rifled a wrister from the right point past Turcotte's glove.

Joly struck again two minutes later.

The ex-Rimouski Oceanic star broke out on a 2-on-1 with Dubois carrying the puck on the right wing. Dubois fed a cross-ice pass to Joly who beat Turcotte on his blocker side with a sharp-angled shot. The net became dislodged as the goal was scored, although a video review confirmed a good goal.

Fifty-nine seconds after that, Gosselin took a pass at the top of the right circle and blasted a shot that beat Turcotte under his blocker to create a 4-0 game. The latter three Screaming Eagle goals came in a span of 3:05.

The Sea Dogs pulled Turcotte after two periods. He allowed four goals on 37 shots and was replaced by Alex Bishop.

Cape Breton started the third period on the power play and expanded its lead just 46 seconds in when Dubois whistled a wrister from the right circle that got inside the right post.

Saint John made it 5-1 just over a minute later on a power play of its own.

Joe Veleno fed a pass from the right circle into the slot where Povorozniouk ripped a low shot off the left post and in past Belanger. Daniel Del Paggio earned an assist to extend his points streak to nine games.

Dubois scored another power play goal before the eleven-minute mark, redirecting home a pass from Evgeny Svechnikov as he stood at the top of the crease.

King rounded out the scoring with his first goal as a Sea Dog.

Matt Murphy sent a knee-high shot from the left point toward the goal. King, who was screening Belanger on the play, deflected the shot downward, through the goaltender's legs to make it 6-2.

Belanger made 20 saves for the win. Turcotte took the loss while Bishop made 17 saves in twenty minutes of relief work.

Dubois' four-point night netted him a first star selection while Gosselin's two-goal, one-assist performance made him second star. Svechnikov earned third star with four assists in front of 3,323 fans in attendance.

Saint John's next game is Saturday, March 19th, at 4 p.m. against Cape Breton at Centre 200. It's the final game of the 2015-16 regular season for both teams.
