Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis starter Jameson Taillon tallied six shutout innings and Josh Bell drove in a pair of runs as the Indians claimed a big series win over first-place Columbus on Thursday at Victory Field.

Taillon (3-2) was masterful, allowing just five hits and striking out eight while walking none.

Columbus' starter Ryan Merritt (3-4) received the loss following seven innings of work. He allowed four runs on eight hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

The Indians (20-19) broke through in the third inning, plating three runs. Jacob Stallings singled to lead off the frame before a walk by Gift Ngoepe and a base hit from Adam Frazier loaded the bases with one away. Pedro Florimon then lofted a sac fly to center field to score the first run, and Josh Bell drove in two more on a single ripped to left.

Adam Frazier extended his hitting streak to a team-best 11 games with a single in the third.

Jacob Stallings made it 4-0 with his first home run of the year, a solo shot to left in the fourth. He finished 2-for-3 on the day.

Columbus (24-16) would not respond until the seventh inning. Bobby Ison chalked up an RBI single to center, scoring Guillermo Quiroz who reached on a leadoff hit.

The Clippers added another run in the top of the ninth, but it wouldn't be enough to reverse the scales, as it brought the final score to 4-2.

The Tribe welcomes Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to Victory Field Friday at 7:15 p.m.
