Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

Moosic, Pa. - All good things must come to an end, and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) saw their eight-game winning streak snapped on Monday night, as the Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates) shutout the RailRiders, 5-0. The win improves Indianapolis' record to 22-10, as SWB falls to 17-12.

The Indians got to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Chien-Ming Wang early, as they scored three runs in the fourth. With two outs, Matt Hague singled to extend the inning. Jared Goedert followed with a line drive single to center field, moving Hague to second. Ivan DeJesus Jr. then doubled down the right field line, which brought home both Hague and Goedert. DeJesus Jr. advanced to third on the late throw home.

Indianapolis took further command of the game in the fifth. Alex Presley led off with a single to right field and then stole second base. Felix Pie followed by hitting a home run to left-center field, it was his first of the season and extended the Indianapolis lead to 5-0.

That was all the support Indians starter Andy Oliver (2-1) would need. He worked six scoreless frames, allowed just two hits, and struck out five batters. He struggled with his command at times, and issued four walks.

David Adams produced two of the four Scranton/Wilkes-Barre hits on the night, including a double. The performance raised his season batting average to .325.

Wang (2-2) allowed five runs over five innings, and was handed the loss. Despite the five earned runs, Wang's season earned run average stands at just 2.63. Kelvin Perez appeared in his first game for SWB this season. He tossed scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh and struck out four batters.

The RailRiders and Indians will play game two of a four game series on Tuesday night at PNC Field. Tuesdays present a special two for one deal, as fans can buy a NEPA Honda Homer Zone ticket, and receive another one free. Brett Marshall (1-2, 5.33) is coming off his strongest start of the season, and will get the nod for SWB. Brandon Cumpton (2-1, 3.63) will be the starter for Indianapolis. The RailRiders are just beginning an eight-game home stand, which runs until Monday, May 13. Great ticket packages, group deals and single-game tickets are available. With no upper deck at PNC Field anymore, every seat in the ballpark provides the supreme views and intimacy that make minor league baseball so special at incredibly affordable prices.
