Illinois Native Jay Voss Heading to Peoria

PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals have announced the addition of Breese, IL native Jay Voss to the Peoria roster. Voss, a 6'4" lefty, will become the second left handed reliever for the Chiefs this season joining Steve Sabatino.
Voss began 2013 pitching for the Advanced-A Palm Beach Cardinals where he appeared in eight games and started a total of five. After an injury, he rehabbed for the GCL Cardinals of the Gulf Coast League July 24 through August 13 where he did not allow an earned run in four innings of work.
Voss was acquired by the Cardinals from the Detroit Tigersin December, 2012 in the Triple-A phase of the Rule V draft. In 2012 he was 0-3 with a 6.50 ERA and appeared in three games for the Erie SeaWolves, AA affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. Voss struck out eight over the course of 10 1/3 innings pitched.
Voss started 2011 pitching for the Advanced-A Lakeland Tigers, also a Detroit affiliate. He went 3-0 with a 3.21 ERA in eight games, six of which he started. He spent the majority of 2011 pitching once again for Erie where he started 19 games and went 9-7 with a 3.67 ERA. Voss struck out 101 batters and walked just 37 in 115 1/3 innings pitched.
The Breese, IL native also pitched for Lakeland and Erie in 2010. With Lakeland, he went 0-1 with two saves and a 1.40 ERA. He struck out 33 for Erie and held LHB to a .211 batting average.
Before being traded to the Tigers, Voss began 2009 pitching for the Jupiter Hammerheads, Advanced-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins. He went 0-1 with a 2.03 ERA and ten strike outs in 13 1/3 innings of work and didn't allow a homerun with the Hammerheads. He spent May through September pitching for the AA Jacksonville Suns of the Southern League where he went 3-0 with a save and a 2.97 ERA.
The lefty spent 2008 in Greensboro, NC pitching for the Greensboro Grasshoppers where he recorded 55 strike outs in 26 appearances. He made his pro debut on June 21, 2007 for the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League. He struck out 35 batters in 15 appearances. Voss was drafted in the 8th round of the 2007 draft by the Florida Marlins out of Kaskaskia Community College located in Centralia, IL.
