October 18, 2010 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) - Louisiana IceGators
LAFAYETTE, LA - The 2010-11 season is full of changes for the Louisiana IceGators. On Monday the franchise introduced the owners of the franchise, Chuck Anselmo Jr. and his son Chuck Anselmo III to members of the press at a press conference at the Cajundome. In addition to the press meeting the new owners the franchise announced an affiliation agreement with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League.
"This affiliation is going to be great for the team and the community," answered IceGators Head Coach Dave MacIsaac when asked about the affiliation agreement. "We will have the chance to see some new young talent that is in the New York Islanders farm system and follow these players up to the NHL. "
With this agreement players that are under contract with the Islanders can be sent to the IceGators. At this time the IceGators affiliation with the Islanders is the only affiliation with a NHL team in the Southern Professional Hockey League.
"This could help us take our roster to the next level," stated MacIsaac. "We are going to have some new players playing for us that we have never seen before."
In addition to the affiliation agreement the team's new owners Chuck Anselmo Jr. and his son Chuck Anselmo III, who bought out Danny Smith in August, go their first chance to meet and talk with the local media.
"We want to make this version of the IceGators like it use to be," stated Chuck Anselmo Jr. when asked about his vision for the IceGators. "We remember how this team was a staple in the community and we are going to bring a product to Lafayette that will help make the area whole again. The IceGators will be affordable and exciting again. This is for the community and our focus is going to be the community."
Anselmo Jr. owned a moving and storage advisor for 38 years with Mayflower and United. He is also dedicated to Acadiana. He helped found the Acadiana In-Line Hockey in 1996.
Anselmo III currently owns Allstate Building Systems, which was started by his father in '67. Anselmo III was born and raised in the Lafayette Area.
