IceDogs Play their Game in 3-1 Victory

Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs started their back-to-back weekend on a positive note on Friday night as they defeated the Saginaw Spirit by a score of 3-1.
Graham Knott kicked off the scoring for the IceDogs with a quick wrister that gave his team a 1-0 lead a little over four minutes into the first period. The goal was Knott's seventh of the season. Not to be outmatched was centreman Johnny Corneil as he netted his 15th of the year assisted by Josh Ho-Sang and Josh Wesley. Saginaw would cut the lead in half on the powerplay before the end of the period, allowing the IceDogs to walk into the second period with a 2-1 lead.
The second period was dominated by the IceDogs as they continuously pressured the Spirit in their own end, outshooting their opponent 16-3 in the middle frame. However, Alex Nedeljkovic had to be sharp on each shot he faced in both periods as the bronze medal winning American had missed some time with his IceDogs teammates after being away in Finland for the World Junior Championship.
The third frame was much like the second as the IceDogs continued to dictate the pace of play, not allowing the Spirit to get a shot on goal until around the halfway mark of the period. A penalty by Saginaw late in the period saw IceDogs alternate captain Jordan Maletta putting a pretty bow on the game as he scored an empty-net goal for his 23rd marker of the season. The final shots on goal were a staggering 44-17 for the IceDogs.
Tickets are still available for the IceDogs next home game on Thursday, January 21st vs Owen Sound Attack. This game marks the annual Pink in the Rink game in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Proceeds will go towards women's cancer research, so be sure to wear pink on the 21st to show your support.
