November 27, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The IceDogs and the Sudbury Wolves met this afternoon for the 2nd time in 3 days. Leading up to this game, the IceDogs had won the past 3 meetings between these teams, most recently a feisty 3-1 come from behind win on Friday.
The Wolves struck early in the 1st to take the 1-0 lead. With 5 minutes to go in the 1st, the Wolves would score to double their lead, but within seconds, Akil Thomas cut the lead in half. His first period tally was Thomas' 7th goal of the season and was assisted by Matt Philip. The Wolves regained their 2 goal lead, taking a 3-1 advantage into the first intermission.
Sudbury would score two early goals to take a 5-1 lead. The IceDogs would bounce right back as Pavel Demin took advantage of a powerplay to make it 5-2. Matt Philip and Oliver Castleman picked up the assists on Demin's goal. Sudbury would add another to make it 6-2, but a few minutes later, Akil Thomas scored his second of the game, assisted by Johnny Corneil, to cut Sudbury's lead in half heading into the 3rd.
The third period got off to a great start for the IceDogs, as they were looking to build off the success of the last half of the 2nd period. Kyle Langdon capitalized on a 5 on 3 powerplay to bring the IceDogs within 2. The IceDogs continued to pressure Sudbury and pepper the Wolves' goalie with shots, but they weren't able to complete the comeback. The Wolves hung on to win 6-4.
