Niagara IceDogs News Release

Tonight marked the first of two meetings between the IceDogs and the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds, and the Dogs were looking to get off to a strong start to the weekend. Tonight also marked the annual Teddy Bear Toss, and thousands of fans packed the Meridian Centre in hopes of tossing some new stuffed animals to be donated to Victims Services Niagara and St Catharines General Hospital in preparation of the holiday season.

The IceDogs got off to a solid start against the Greyhounds, and with just five minutes left, assistant captain Johnny Corneil made it rain teddy bears! Corneil's goal was assisted by Ben Jones and Chris Paquette. The 1-0 score would hold going into the 1stintermission.

The second period was fast paced and saw plenty of shots exchanged by both sides. Sault Ste Marie capitalized to take the 2-1 lead early in the period.. Chris Paquette scored the equalizer with 5 to go in the 2nd, assisted by Ben Jones and Johnny Corneil. Soon after Paquette tied it, the Greyhounds scored twice and took the 4-2 into the 3rd period.

The ‘Dogs came out flying in the 3rd, scoring two goals in 37 seconds! First, Matt Philip got Niagara within one, assisted by the captain Ryan Mantha. Then, Ben Jones scored the equalizer from the slot. Chris Paquette and Justin MacPherson picked up the assists on Jones' goal. The Greyhounds would come back to take the 7-4 with less than 10 to go in the 3rd, and the score would hold.

Thank you to all fans who helped support Victim Services Niagara and St. Catharines General Hospital in our annual Teddy Bear Toss!

The IceDogs next game is at home Saturday night as they take on the Mississauga Steelheads. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online HERE or in person at the following locations:
