February 13, 2013 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Niagara IceDogs
The Niagara IceDogs doubled up on the hometown Erie Otters in a big 6-3 win in Erie on Wednesday night!
The IceDogs got off to just the start they were looking for in the first period, as Ryan Strome would get the visitors on the board with his 30th of the season 7:23 in to make it 1-0. The IceDogs would keep things rolling minutes later as Shayne Rover would fire a point shot home to extend the lead to 2-0. Niagara would not stop there, stretching the lead to 3-0 before the end of the period, as Trevor Petersen would add a goal of his own with 24 seconds left in the frame. In addition to the 3-0 lead on the scoreboard, the IceDogs also carried the lead in the shot count 11-4 after one.
While the IceDogs would enjoy the 3-0 lead headed into the second, Erie would not give up, battling back with a pair of goals early in the frame to cut the Niagara lead to 3-2. The IceDogs would be unfazed however as Anthony DiFruscia would answer back, extend the IceDogs lead to 4-2 at the 7:57 mark of the second. The offence would then continue to roll as Aaron Haydon would get in on the scoring, picking up a powerplay goal to make it 5-2. Strome would then close out the second for the IceDogs with his second goal of the night to send the IceDogs into the intermission up 6-2. Shots after 40 favoured the IceDogs 20-11.
The third period would see the scoring finally settle down, as Erie would cut the IceDogs lead to 6-3 with a goal midway through the frame, but that would be it as the IceDogs headed back to St. Catharines 6-3 winners. Final shots in the game were 32-18 Niagara.
