IceCats' Evans named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week

March 8, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Worcester IceCats center Blake Evans has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 7, 2004. In three games, Evans scored four goals, added one assist and recorded a plus-5 rating as the IceCats won all three outings.

Evans began the week by scoring the only goal in Worcester’s 1-0 win at Portland on Wednesday night, giving the IceCats two points in a crucial Atlantic Division match-up. On Saturday, Evans scored twice in a 5-2 victory over Hershey, and Sunday, he netted one goal and assisted on another as Worcester got past rival Springfield, 4-2. Evans finished the week with a point on half of the IceCats’ 10 goals, and now owns the first three-game goal-scoring streak of his AHL career.

In recognition of his achievement, Evans will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the MidState Junior IceCats Youth Hockey League in Evans’ name.

Originally drafted by Washington in 1998, Evans is in his third professional season after signing with St. Louis on Apr. 11, 2001. This season with Worcester, the 23-year-old from Kindersley, Sask., has recorded 13 goals and 16 assists for 29 points in 63 games, and is one of two IceCats to play in every game on the year. A product of the Western Hockey League, Evans has 72 points (30g, 42a) in 169 career AHL contests with Worcester.
