IceCaps Discuss Future Plans with Corporate Partners

February 14, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL) - St. John's IceCaps News Release

St. John's IceCaps' President and Chief Executive Officer Danny Williams along with Glenn Stanford, Governor and Chief Operating Officer and other members of the club's senior management team joined corporate partners for a mid-season marketing meeting yesterday afternoon at the St. John's Convention Centre.

Williams confirmed the IceCaps are in discussions to host the 2014 American Hockey League All-Star Game and bring an NHL and NBA exhibition game to Mile One Centre in the near future. Additionally, Williams praised the corporate community for their overwhelming support of the organization.

"We are extremely proud of the corporate partnerships that we have developed since our inception last year," said Williams.

"The business community really stepped up and recognized early on the incredible benefits of a partnership with the IceCaps. Season one was extremely successful and this season we have improved further the value-added for our sponsors. This has been achieved though things such as the new clock at centre ice, improved market reach on our web site and through social media, and increased profile through community events. And we shared with our partners today even greater things to come including potential professional sporting events such as NHL and NBA exhibition games, the AHL All Star game and any other sporting event we think our community will support. These types of events provide a tremendous boost from a tourism and promotion perspective, as we showcase the province to an international audience."

Team management also outlined future plans and enhancements to the IceCaps experience in-game, on-line and through its social media network.

Williams addressed the clubs recent struggles on the ice but pointed out most fans continue to be entertained by the hockey club and the entire game-night presentation. Williams assured corporate partners that the club will always work to ensure excellence in the overall product it provides to its fans, from concessions to off-ice entertainment. Surveys of suite and season-ticket holders are being reviewed to determine what improvements should be made.

From a community standpoint, presentations at the event touched on the club's impact as civic leaders including St. John's IceCaps players visiting thousands of children throughout the province as part of the club's community outreach program, Buddy's Book Club and player visits to the Janeway. Additionally, the financial contribution the club makes throughout the province through IceCaps Care in partnership with the Williams Family Foundation, makes a huge impact on the community at large. To-date nearly $1 million in financial donations and in-kind contributions have been made to charitable organizations province-wide over the past two seasons.

On Friday, the IceCaps embark on a six-game, 14-day road trip with stops in Manchester (twice), Portland, Connecticut, Toronto and Hamilton. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at stjohnsicecaps.com and on 930 AM, or watch online at ahllive.com.
