Ice Snuff Out Spark
February 18, 2011 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Tyler Zepeda scored a breakaway shorthanded goal, but the Waterloo Black Hawks could not catch fire against the Indiana Ice Friday, falling at Young Arena 2-1.
Fourty-one seconds after the Ice had taken the lead on a goal by Tim Smith during a four-on-three power play, the Hawks caught the Ice in a change. James Hansen, back peddling into his own zone, snapped the puck to Jamie Hill. His touch pass for Zepeda set up the breakaway score to the short side of Casey DeSmith at 10:12 of the second period.
The Hawks were unable to take the lead, and Indiana pulled in front for good when Brian Ferlin rushed up ice into the offensive zone and fired a shot into the top corner. C.J. Motte stopped 25 other Ice shots, while DeSmith made 28 saves.
The Hawks host the USHL's top team, the Green Bay Gamblers, at Young Arena Saturday, beginning at 7:05. It is an iwireless College Night, with $7 tickets for all college students presenting an ID at the Black Hawks box office.
Due to some difficulty with the USHL's online statistics service, tonight's box score is not available online. A partial box score of tonight's game is included below. Penalties from Friday's game are not currently available.
