Ice Select Defenseman in CHL Import Draft

June 30, 2004 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kootenay Ice News Release

Cranbrook, BC – Roy Stasiuk, Director of Player Personnel for the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club announced today the club has selected 18-year-old Defenseman Roman Polak in the first round (19th overall) of today’s 13th annual CHL Import Draft.

“One of the most difficult tasks for any WHL scouting staff is to identify a European player. His numbers are very impressive for a 17-year old Defenseman in the Under 20 League. We hope Roman can make the transition to our style of game and contribute at the same level,” continued Stasiuk.

The ICE, who expect the return of 20-year-old Forward Martin Sagat this fall, are not expected to participate in the second round of the CHL draft later today.
