Indiana Ice Miners News Release

CANTON, Ohio - On Monday, the Indiana Ice Miners of the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League announced the signing of Christian Panaia as their new head coach for the upcoming 2008-2009 MAHL hockey season.

Panaia is returning to the MAHL having played for the Mon Valley Thunder in the MAHL's inaugural season. From 2000-2006 Panaia was a hockey instructor and advisor to the International Hockley College.

"I am very proud to be returning to the Mid-Atlantic league this year," said Panaia at his signing. "The Miners were an incredible team last season and I hope to give the Miners' fans the same winning philosophy from last year."

The Indiana Ice Miners finished the MAHL's inaugural regular season with a 31-1-0 record and were named the first league champion.

MAHL president Andrew Haines was excited about the signing of Panaia as the Miners bench boss. "Last year the Ice Miners had a terrific regular season campaign and Christian has some big shoes to fill this season," said Haines. "The MAHL and the Ice Miners' organization are excited about Christian taking over the coaching reigns and leading the Miners this season."

"The Ice Miners' fans were very supportive of the club last season and we expect that Christian will give the fans more reason to come out this season to support the club," said Haines.

The Indiana Ice Miners will begin defense of their 2007-2008 regular season championship in November 2008 when the MAHL begins its second season.
