Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - For the second night in a row, the Pensacola Ice Flyers (16-10-1) fell to the Fayetteville FireAntz (16-9-2) thanks to a shutout by Sean Bonar. Tonight the Antz blanked Pensacola 4-0.
It was starting to look like the FireAntz and Ice Flyers would skate a scoreless first period for the second night in a row but that didn't happen as Fayetteville's Berkley Scott put the puck past John McLean with 1:01 left in the first period.
The Antz doubled their lead with an unassisted tally by Cole Wilson with 10:18 left in the second period. Fayetteville was able to put the game further out of reach with a goal by Kyle Gibbons with 5:01 left in the third. In an attempt to spark a comeback, coach Rod Aldoff pulled McLean in favor of an extra attacker but with McLean on the bench, Josh McQuade put one in the empty net with 24 seconds left in the game.
McLean stopped 35 of the 38 shots he faced.
The Ice Flyers' next game is Friday, Jan. 24, when they take on the Huntsville Havoc in the Rocket City. They'll return to the Hangar next Saturday, Jan. 23, when they welcome the Macon Mayhem into the Hangar for the second Wiener Dog Race Night of the season. Those interested in registering their wiener dog can call the Ice Flyers office at 850 466 3111. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
