Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PEORIA, Ill.- The Pensacola Ice Flyers (1-3-1) dropped their first game of the season against the Peoria Rivermen (3-2-1) by a score of 4-1.
The Rivermen opened the scoring when former Ice Flyer Cody Dion got his second goal of the season 7:32 into the first period. Early in the second period, Pensacola found themselves facing a 5-on-3 Peoria power play. Before the first penalty expired, Dakota Klecha scored with 17:22 left in the period leaving Peoria still on a 5-on-4 man advantage. Zach Loesch took a cross checking penalty to make it 5-on-3 and seven seconds later Jake Hauswirth made it 3-0 Peoria. Due to the timing of the penalties, the Rivermen still held the 5-on-3 advantage.
Hauswirth scored his second goal of the second period with just 46.1 seconds left in the frame. The Ice Flyers got on the scoreboard with Austin McKay's second goal of his rookie professional season. Zach Loesch and Andrew Schmit had the helpers on the goal that came with 11:23 remaining in regulation time. That proved to be the last goal of the game.
Drew Fielding stopped 32 of Peoria's 36 shots on goal. His record on the season now stands at 0-2-0.
The Ice Flyers will face the Rivermen again tomorrow night inside Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans interested in watching the game can do so at SPHLLive.com.
