Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release


LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that forward Jimmy Bonneau and defenseman James Sanford were assigned by the Hamilton Bulldogs yesterday and forward Cory Urquhart was assigned by Hamilton today. In other news, forwards Danny Stewart and Sheldon Wenzel were placed on waivers. Defenseman Scott Basiuk was traded to Bakersfield and defenseman Kevin Lavallee was traded to Florida, both for financial considerations.

Both Bonneau and Sanford played in the Ice Dogs' 5-1 preseason victory over Las Vegas last night, with Bonneau notching a goal in the third period. Jimmy Bonneau was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 8th round (#241 overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He played last season for the Prince Edward Island Rocket of the QMJHL where he recorded 22 points and 234 penalty minutes in 70 games. James Sanford split time between the Peoria Rivermen and Hamilton Bulldogs last season, recording 10 points in 31 games with Hamilton and 11 points in 24 games with Peoria.

Cory Urquhart, the Canadiens' 2nd round pick in 2003 (#40 overall), played in 63 games with Long Beach last season, tallying 16 goals and 15 assists.

Danny Stewart and Sheldon Wenzel played in both preseason games for Long Beach, but Kevin Lavillee and Scott Basiuk both played in just the first game. None of the four players had any points in the two games.
